Established Fall 2016
Following a change in the leadership of the Johnston Girls Softball League, the new league president acted on a vision to create additonal opportunities for the league and it's players. With the support of the board members, the Rhode Island Rockets were created to offer additional softball beyond the recreational league. Our teams were created for players who want to train and practice year round to prepare for a competitive tournament season in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. The 2016-2017 playing season was the inaugural season for the RI Rockets.
Johnston Girls Softball
The RI Rockets are part of the Johnston Girls Softball League and operate as a non-profit organization. We are based out of Woodlake Park in Johnston, RI. Our recreation players are given the opportunity to play on both one of our recreation teams and tryout for one of our Rockets travel teams. Johnston Girls Softball recreation registration and play, as well as Rockets tryouts, are open & available to all players of all ages.
(Note: some Rockets age divisions & class C play require recreation registration for participation. Contact us with any questions.)
Accomplishments
After putting our name on the map during the 2016-17 season, we have been on an upward trend each and every year since. The 2017-18 season saw us move into new age divisions and take on new and exciting challenges. In the summer of the 2018-19 season, after just 3 short years in existence, the RI Rockets took home their first USA Softball Rhode Island State Championship title. Once again, our organization moved teams up in division and class for the 2019-2020 season which saw mulitple championship finals appearances for our teams and a tournament championship title for our organization. Through 2023, year in year out, the Rockets are battling every Sunday to go home with the next tournament championship, 15 and counting!!!
Future
The RI Rockets are excited for what is ahead for our organization. There are big things on the horizon. With the CCRI Lady Knights at home at Woodlake Park, our girls will now have a hands on experience with college coaches, players, and the recruiting process. The Rockets organization will be expanding to include more teams in more divisions. The future is bright for the Rhode Island Rockets.
